Position Overview

The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women's empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

Nothing But Nets is an innovative grassroots campaign that fights malaria, which claims the life of a child every two minutes. Our campaign goals are to raise critical funds to send life-saving insecticide treated bed nets to families and to advocate for malaria prevention programs like the President’s Malaria Initiative and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The selected intern will undertake supporting these and other special projects throughout their internship.

The Grassroots Advocacy Intern will report to the Grassroots Advocacy Officer and will work collaboratively to support the priorities of the grassroots advocacy team.

Internship Expectations

Work with Nothing But Nets team to support the following advocacy work:

General:
- Assist Grassroots Officer and Campaign Associate with the expansion of our grassroots networks by recruiting new champions in strategically located Congressional districts.
- Provide support to individual champions who reach out to the campaign.
- Assist Officer in facilitating the completion of advocacy requirements by champions and partnership organizations
- Draft copy (social media posts, blogs, etc.) about the campaign and current advocacy initiatives.
- Support the grassroots organizing team in achieving quarterly advocacy goals.
- Support the grassroots organizing team in building systems for improved program development and implementation.
Leadership Summit
- Assist Officer and Associate with researching digital conference trends for the 2021 Leadership Summit

Selection Criteria

Intern must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within eight months of graduation) with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
15 – 20 hours per week are required for the internship.
Applicants should have an understanding of and experience with grassroots campaigns, event planning, communications, social networking and blogging. Systems thinking and data analysis is plus.
Background knowledge in Communications, Event Planning, Public Relations, International Studies, Global Health, or African Studies preferred.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Experience in Word, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop.
Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
Ability to track, execute and report on multiple tasks.
Strong organizational skills.

Benefits and Compensation

The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid full and part-time internships. We are happy to host interns who are able to receive academic credit or a stipend through their college or university. However, please note that it is not a requirement in order to intern with us.
